The BCAA expansion of functional Imaging (PET/CT) Kelowna was built to accommodate a new PET/CT scanner for the Sindi Ahluwalia Hawkins Centre for the Southern Interior
(SAHCSI), adjacent to Kelowna General Hospital. Including the creation of a fully functional PET/CT suite within the addition, complete with hot and cold areas, change rooms, uptake
rooms, physician reading rooms, and washrooms. Most of the work was outside the existing building envelope, with a small portion attributed to interior renovations. The addition offers shared support spaces throughout, as well as allowing for dedicated treatment areas within the Cancer Centre. The front-of-house serves both waiting and reception functions, while an expansion of the Diagnostic Imaging department within KGH is situated in the west portion; the back-of-house contains shared meeting rooms, lockers, and dedicated offices for staff. The project provides abundant natural light within public spaces as well as in the PET/CT suite, utilizing virtual skylights. Detailed hoarding and phasing plans were developed to maintain operational continuity during construction
